A spinning band is a rotating helical band inside a distillation column. The spinning band wipes the inner wall of the column, creating a thin film for contact between rising vapors and descending condensate.
Teflon spinning bands are used for temperatures below 225°C. Metal spinning bands are available for higher temperatures. Systems range from 5 ml to 50 liters.

The spinning band design results in low hold-up, making it well suited for distilling small or valuable samples.
