Spinning Band Distillation

Spinning band distillation uses a rotating helical band inside a distillation column. The band wipes the inner wall, creating a thin film for contact between rising vapors and descending condensate. High efficiency with very low hold-up.

Teflon spinning bands are used for temperatures below 225°C. Metal spinning bands are available for higher temperatures. Systems range from 5 ml to 50 liters. Ideal for small or valuable samples and as a fractional distillation column option.

How Spinning Band Distillation Works

Rotating Helical Band

A helical band rotates inside the distillation column, wiping the inner wall and creating a thin film for vapor-liquid contact.

Low Hold-up

The spinning band design results in low hold-up, making it well suited for distilling small or valuable samples.

Teflon or Metal Bands

Teflon spinning bands are used for temperatures below 225°C. Metal spinning bands are available for higher temperature applications.

Questions

Spinning Band Distillation FAQ

What is spinning band distillation?
A rotating helical band inside the distillation column wipes the inner wall, creating a thin film for vapor-liquid contact. Low hold-up makes it well suited for small or valuable samples.
Teflon or metal band?
Teflon spinning bands for temperatures below 225°C. Metal spinning bands for higher temperature applications.
What model sizes are available?
About 5 ml to 50 liters overall: 9600 (1-50 L), 36-100 mini (25 ml-1 L; four times the separating power of the 9600), and 800 micro (5-25 ml). See also the fractional distillation equipment overview.
