When to use mini instead of full ASTM D2892
Full ASTM D2892 / D5236 systems use a packed 15-plate TBP column. Traditional packed columns have a lower practical charge around 1 liter because of hold-up in the packing. The mini unit is for 50-1000 ml crude when that packed-column charge is too large.
It uses a spinning band column and a single column run from IBP to above 500°C. That is not a substitute for a full D2892/D5236 assay on a large sample. It is the small-sample crude tool. See also the mini crude oil distillation note and the micro unit (3-100 ml).
