What is ASTM D1160 vacuum distillation?
ASTM D1160 is the standard test method for distillation of petroleum products at reduced pressure. It determines the boiling range of heavy petroleum fractions, residual fuels, and biodiesel that would decompose if distilled at atmospheric pressure. The method is also published as ISO 6616.
What samples are tested with ASTM D1160?
ASTM D1160 is used for petroleum products and fractions that may decompose if distilled at atmospheric pressure, including heavy oils, residual fuels, lubricating oil stocks, and biodiesel. Distillation is performed under vacuum with a maximum liquid temperature typically around 400°C.
What ASTM D1160 models does B/R offer?
Three levels: Fully Automatic (PC control of vacuum, bath temperature, distillation rate, volume measurement, and cleaning), Semi-Automatic (PC control of vacuum, bath temperature, and heating rates), and Manually Operated (turnkey cabinet with digital displays and safety shields). How does D1160 differ from D2892 and D5236?
ASTM D1160 is vacuum distillation of petroleum products for boiling-range data. ASTM D2892 is true boiling point (TBP) distillation of crude petroleum with a 15-theoretical-plate column.
